Know about Biobased Eraser

The Biobased Rice husk and Tea Eraser is an environmental-friendly invention. This invention reduces the emission of carbon dioxide in the manufacturing process in comparison with that of the conventional petrochemical erasers and contributes to reduction in environmental impact. According to statics, the eraser currently used by primary schools exceeds 15 tons per year and more that 95% of the commercially available erasers are made with PVC and contains heavy metals and diester phthalate (DEHP) plasticizers. Plasticizers must be added during the manufacturing process to make the eraser soft. Phthalates are environmental hormones that interfere with hormonal operations in the body and affects reproduction & development. In addition to this they can also cause liver cancer & kidney cancer. When children come in touch with these toxic items containing phthalates, they may directly or indirectly consume these toxic plasticizers and be at high health risks. There are vinyl chloride erasers and non-vinyl chloride erasers on the market. However, these erasers must use a large amount of depleting petrochemical resources and are accompanied by a large amount of carbon emission during the manufacturing process which are against current goals of countries to slow down global warming and reduce environmental burdens. The innovative use of rice husk and tea leaves avoids the trouble of environmental pollution caused by disposal and can save a lot of consumption of other natural resources. Taiwan currently produces about 60000 metric tons of rice husk waste every year. FLOMO uses the rice husk & tea leaves which mostly are going to be disposed of by burning it in the open or dumped it in open spaces in rivers causing environmental pollution.
